Module 05-B: Build an Assignment & Create Assignment Groups

Objective:
To build an Assignment, select Assignment Details, create an Assignment Group, weight an Assignment Group, move an assignment into an Assignment Group, add an assignment to a module, and move a module item. You will use these skills to build assignments, determine appropriate settings for the assignments in your course, add assignments to Assignment Groups, weight your grading categories to make your final course grading more efficient, and to reorganize module content.

Before beginning this assignment, please review the Build an Assignment & Create Assignment Groups assignment example Download Build an Assignment & Create Assignment Groups assignment example and the assignment rubric below for specific assignment criteria and tips. Click the file link to view the example or click the download load icon next to the title (looks like a down arrow) to preview the example inline or download the file to your computer.
Follow the steps below to complete the assignment. Optionally, you may submit a screenshot of a new course you are building or a previous course you built and are currently teaching with a description of how it fulfills the requirements for this assignment.
Part 1
- Go to your practice course.
- Click on Assignments.
- Add an Assignment titled: M00: Help Me Get to Know You.
- Click around and investigate the features/options/settings available for Assignments and do the following:
- Add assignment directions of your choice.
- Add the points of your choice. For example, 10.
- Select a grade display of your choice. For example, Points.
- Select a submission type of your choice. For example, Online with File Uploads.
- Add one or more other Assignment Details (features/options/settings) of your choice. For example, Require Peer Reviews or Available from and until dates.
- Add a Due date of your choice.
- Click on Save and Publish to save your assignment.
- Take a screenshot of your M00: Help Me Get to Know You assignment showing the directions, points, submission type, and due date you added.
- Paste your screenshot into a Word document. Please make your screenshot as large as the page will allow.
- Save your document.
Part 2
- Return to the Assignments page by clicking on Assignments in the Course Navigation menu or Breadcrumbs.
- Open the editor on the default Assignment Group titled: Assignments and change the name to: Homework. Your M00: Help Me Get to Know You assignment and M00: Introduce Yourself discussion should already be in the default assignment group.
- Create a second Assignment Group titled: Discussions.
- Use the drag and drop handle or Move To feature on your M00: Introduce Yourself discussion to move it into the Discussions assignment group.
- Create a third Assignment Group titled: Quizzes. You will use this assignment group for an upcoming assignment.
- Add the weights of your choice to your Assignment Groups. For example, Homework 40%, Discussions 30%, and Quizzes 30%.
- Take a screenshot of your Assignments index page showing the Homework, Discussions, and Quizzes assignment groups and your assignment and discussion moved into the requested groups.
- Paste your screenshot into the same Word document. Please make your screenshot as large as the page will allow.
- Save your document.
Part 3
- Comment on one or more Assignment Details features/options/settings and one or more Assignment Group features/options/settings you find most helpful or will use most frequently.
- Type your comments into the Word document with your screenshots OR type them directly into the comments box of the assignment.
Part 4
- Go to Modules.
- Use the module Add Item drop down content selector on your M:00 Getting Started module to add your M00: Help Me Get to Know You assignment to the module. This will add the assignment to the bottom of your module. Remember to indent your assignment 1 Level.
- Use the drag and drop handle or the Move to feature on the M00: Help Me Get to Know You assignment to position the assignment between the TO-DO text header and your M00: Introduce Yourself discussion.
- If you haven't already done so, publish your M00: Help Me Get to Know You assignment.
- Verify that your module contains the following items:
- Text Header titled: START HERE!
- Page titled: Welcome & Course Orientation
- Page titled: M00: Outcomes and Objectives
- Text Header titled: LEARNING RESOURCES
- Page titled: Meet your Instructor
- Page titled: How to be Successful in this Course
- File of your choice: For example, a pacing chart, course map, or another useful handout
- External Link of your choice: For example, to Student Services, your campus Library, or the Canvas Student Guides
- Text Header titled: TO-DO
- Assignment titled: M00: Help Me Get to Know You
- Graded Discussion titled: M00: Introduce Yourself
- Take a screenshot of your Modules index page showing your M00: Help Me Get to Know You assignment added to your M:00 Getting Started module.
- Paste your screenshot into the same Word document. Please make your screenshot as large as the page will allow.
Submission Directions:
- You will submit a single Word document containing the screenshots for this assignment.
- Save your screenshot document and return here to submit it.
